About Fly Masks
Fly masks are protective coverings designed to shield horses' faces, particularly their eyes, ears, and noses, from flies and other biting insects. Fly protection is essential, especially during summer months when flies and other pests are most active.
They are typically made from durable, breathable mesh fabric allowing airflow. They provide a barrier against flies, gnats and other biting insects reducing the risk of irritation and infection. Fly masks cover the eyes, ears and sometimes the nose, strategically placed seams allow your horse to wear them in comfort.
Types of Fly Masks
There are a range of fly masks available, when choosing a fly mask, consider the specific needs of your horse/pony, including sensitivity to flies, skin conditions, and comfort preferences. It's also important to ensure the mask fits well and doesn't obstruct the horse's vision.
The standard fly mask covers the eyes, with optional protection for the ears, as we understand that some horses are sensitive to their ears being covered. These masks offer basic protection from biting insects with additional UV protection.
A fly mask with additional nose protection has extended coverage and protects sensitive skin on the muzzle from flies and sunburn. This is a great choice for the pony with light coloured skin at risk from sunburn.
The full-face fly mask covers the entire face including eyes, ears and nose. These fly masks provide comprehensive protection for your equine friend. A suitable choice for those very sensitive to flies or with skin conditions such as sweet itch.
Some masks feature fly fringes or tassels around the edges, the movement of the fly fringes helps to deter flies and insects. Colours are available.
Choosing and fitting a fly mask for your horse
Our selection of fly masks are available in a full range of sizes and colours - extra small pony, small pony, pony, cob, full and extra full. A fly mask can protect against eye irritation, sunburn, and diseases keeping your horse healthy during the hot weather.
Firstly, decide how much protecting your equine requires, is additional coverage for the sensitive areas required? Ensure your fly mask fits snugly but comfortably, without causing pressure points or rubbing. Our selection of masks have secure and easy to use fastenings.
Fasten the straps securely but not tightly. There should be enough room to fit two fingers between the strap and the horse’s skin. Ensure the fly mask covers the desired areas without obstructing vision. Always watch your horse for a few minutes to ensure they are comfortable and that the fly mask stays in place.

Proper care extends the lifespan of your Jodhpur boots and maintains their appearance and functionality. For leather boots, clean off dirt and mud after each use with a soft brush or damp cloth and apply a quality leather conditioner regularly to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. For deep cleaning, use saddle soap or a specialised leather cleaner. Allow the boots to dry naturally away from direct heat sources to prevent the leather from warping. Synthetic boots are generally easier to care for; wipe them down with a damp cloth for regular cleaning and use mild soap and water for tougher stains. Avoid harsh chemicals as they can damage the material. Store your boots in a cool, dry place on a boot rack or stuffed with newspaper to help maintain their shape and avoid storing boots while they are still damp to prevent mould and mildew growth.
